Would you like to be part of our Big Book Club?
Do you like reading the occasional book? Would you like to connect with other Colyton parents? Then maybe our Book Club is for you.
We have nine branches in the locations listed below and over 120 registered members. We take it in turns to choose the books we read and each group meets every half-term to discuss the previous title. Our groups meet in each others homes or in pubs or other social spaces. We are very friendly and inclusive and it’s a lovely way to meet other parents who you wouldn’t normally come across. If we don”t have a branch in your area we would love to hear from you as we are always looking to extend the Club where needed.
We have branches for the areas around:
~ Honiton/Ottery St Mary
~ West Hill
~ Sidmouth/ Newton Poppleford
Our groups feedback thoughts on each title and these reviews are published on our Facebook page and this website. Once a year we aim to have a Big Read where all the groups meet together in Cottrill Hall to listen to a visiting author. If you would like more information, please email Rebecca Russell, PA Secretary at firstname.lastname@example.orgJoin the Book Club
Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout.
The Pulitzer prize-winning novel from the author of the Booker longlisted My Name is Lucy Barton
Olive Kitteridge: indomitable, compassionate and often unpredictable. A retired schoolteacher in a small coastal town in Maine, as she grows older she struggles to make sense of the changes in her life. She is a woman who sees into the hearts of those around her, their triumphs and tragedies.
We meet her stoic husband, bound to her in a marriage both broken and strong, and a young man who aches for the mother he lost – and whom Olive comforts by her mere presence, while her own son feels overwhelmed by her complex sensitivities.
A penetrating, vibrant exploration of the human soul, the story of Olive Kitteridge will make you laugh, nod in recognition, wince in pain, and shed a tear or two.
